Update on Fieldwork at Golden Eagle North Munitions Site

View-of-Eagle-Mountain-City

Eagle Mountain residents may notice activity in the Golden Eagle North area over the coming weeks as part of a planned environmental investigation.

Eagle Mountain City is sharing an update on an ongoing effort at the Golden Eagle North Munitions Response Site (MRS), located near The Ranches community.

This 51-acre area, which dates back to military use in the early 1900s, is being studied to determine whether historical munitions may be present and to assess potential risk to human health and the environment. The investigation is being conducted by the Utah Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in coordination with the Utah Department of Environmental Quality.

The final phase of the investigation will take place in late April through June 2026. During this time, residents may see trained personnel onsite conducting targeted digging and soil sampling on City-owned property only. No work will occur on private property.

Temporary safety zones may be in place during work hours (8 AM to 6 PM), which could limit access to some trails. Outside of active work times, the area remains safe for public access. No road closures or evacuations are expected.

If any potentially hazardous munitions are discovered, they will be safely handled, and if necessary, disposed of through small, controlled detonations. The public will be notified in advance of any such activity through the City’s emergency alert system.

If you encounter a suspicious item, do not touch it. Leave the area and call 911.

For more information, project documents, when finalized, will be available for public review in hard copy at the Eagle Mountain Public Library (1650 E. Stagecoach Run Eagle Mountain, UT 84005).
