Our Commitment to Accessibility
Eagle Mountain City is committed to ensuring that its website, eaglemountain.gov, is welcoming and accessible to all residents and visitors, including those with disabilities. We believe every member of our community deserves equal access to city information and services, and we are continuously working to improve the digital experience for everyone.
Standards We Strive to Follow
Eagle Mountain City is actively working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including those with visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive impairments.
We are also working toward compliance with:
- Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (as amended)
- Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
- Utah state accessibility requirements
Accessibility Features
We have implemented or are actively working to implement the following features on our website:
- Keyboard navigation: All pages and interactive elements can be accessed using a keyboard without requiring a mouse.
- Screen reader compatibility: Pages are structured with semantic HTML, proper heading hierarchy, and ARIA labels to support assistive technologies such as screen readers.
- Alternative text: Images throughout the site include descriptive alternative text.
- Color contrast: Text and visual elements are designed to meet minimum contrast ratio requirements for readability.
- Resizable text: Content remains functional and readable when text size is increased up to 200%.
- Descriptive links: Links are written to be meaningful and descriptive when read out of context.
- Accessible forms: Online forms, including the Resident Portal and utility bill payment tools, include properly labeled fields and error messages.
- Captions and transcripts: We work to ensure that video content includes closed captions or transcripts where applicable.
- Skip navigation: A “skip to main content” link is available to help keyboard and screen reader users bypass repetitive navigation.
Our Ongoing Accessibility Journey
We recognize that accessibility is not a one-time effort but an ongoing commitment. While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance across our website, we acknowledge that some content may not yet meet all accessibility standards. Areas we are actively improving include:
- Older PDF documents and forms are being reviewed and remediated on an ongoing basis to improve accessibility.
- Some third-party tools and embedded content, such as maps and payment portals, may have accessibility limitations outside of our direct control. We actively encourage our vendors to prioritize accessibility improvements.
We appreciate your patience as we continue this work and remain dedicated to making progress.
