Utah County Implements Stage 1 Fire Restrictions
The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands has issued Stage 1 Fire Restrictions for unincorporated areas of Utah County, effective Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
According to state officials, the restrictions are necessary due to current and forecasted weather conditions combined with extremely dry vegetation, which increase the risk of wildfires throughout the region.
The Stage 1 Fire Restrictions prohibit the following activities in affected unincorporated areas:
1. Open Fires
Open fires are prohibited except in approved fire rings or grills at developed campgrounds and day-use areas with pressurized water systems, or in permanently constructed fire pits at private residences with access to pressurized water.
2. Smoking in Dry Vegetation Areas
Smoking is prohibited except within an enclosed vehicle, trailer, building, developed recreation site, or in an area that is paved or free from dry vegetation.
3. Fireworks and Pyrotechnic Devices
The use of fireworks, tracer ammunition, exploding targets, and other pyrotechnic devices is prohibited.
4. Cutting, Welding, or Grinding Metal
Activities such as cutting, welding, or grinding metal are prohibited in areas where dry vegetation is present.
5. Operating Equipment Without a Spark Arrestor
Motorcycles, ATVs, chainsaws, and other small internal combustion engines may not be operated unless they are equipped with an approved and functioning spark arrestor.
Violations of the restrictions may result in penalties of up to six months in jail and fines of up to $1,000.
The restrictions remain in place until rescinded by the State Forester.
