Eagle Mountain Academy Celebrates Third Graduating Class

The Eagle Mountain City Council took a moment during its Tuesday, April 21 meeting to recognize the third graduating class of the Eagle Mountain Academy.

The Academy is a six-week program giving residents a behind-the-scenes look at how the City operates and with each class, more community members are learning just how much goes on behind the scenes.

City staff lead every session, walking participants through the departments and services that keep Eagle Mountain running: public safety, infrastructure, utilities, community programs and more. Along the way, residents tour facilities, ask questions and connect directly with the people who serve their community every day.

For many, it’s an experience that sticks.

“We hope the Academy is a great resource for anyone who wants to know more about how a city works,” said Natalie Winterton, Assistant to the City Manager. “We pull back the curtain and show aspects of city governance that people don’t always see.”

Terrence A. Dela Peña, Management Analyst, says that reaction is consistent across participants.

“For residents who have participated in the Academy, I’ve repeatedly heard how eye-opening the experience is,” Dela Peña said. “It gives people a behind-the-scenes look at local government and helps them better understand the wide range of services the City provides.”

Those services often surprise people. From water and wastewater systems to the City library’s lending program, which includes radon detection kits, blood pressure monitors, telehealth kits and outdoor equipment,  the Academy shines a light on the many ways local government touches daily life.

“The Academy also gives residents valuable perspective on how and why the City operates the way it does,” Dela Peña added. “They have the opportunity to ask questions and hear directly from staff across departments who are dedicated to making Eagle Mountain a great place to live, work and play.”

The City plans to host the Eagle Mountain Academy again this fall and encourages residents to sign up for notifications when registration opens.
