Today, Eagle Mountain remembers the life and legacy of Todd Black, who passed away last week at his home in Nibley, Utah at the age of 59.

Todd worked as Eagle Mountain City's Wildlife Biologist and Open Space Manager for the past 3.5 years.

Todd poured his heart into conservation, open spaces, and wildlife. Whether it was hosting the monthly Living with Wildlife video series, or writing his newsletter column by the same name, he helped open eyes and hearts to the beauty and balance of nature in Eagle Mountain.

Todd was known for his expertise. The models he worked on implementing in Eagle Mountain have been cited by cities across the country in their conservation efforts.

He is remembered by those close to him for his humor, his wit, and his way of communicating about the natural world. Todd taught the public about his passion for wildlife without jargon. Instead, he spoke like a neighbor and a friend, showcasing his love for deer, birds, and pollinators in a way Eagle Mountain residents found entertaining and relatable.

Last week, Eagle Mountain lost a steward of open space, a defender of wildlife, and a storyteller who helped us see the natural world in new ways.

Our thoughts are with Todd’s family, friends, and everyone in Eagle Mountain who knew him and appreciated his work.

Testimonials

Still has open spaces with outdoor recreation opportunities and still a safe place for wildlife. I hope that never changes. I love that my kids can leave the house and have outdoor adventures in the hills.

We love Eagle Mountain. It has the small, close-knit feel but is close to everything.

Eagle Mountain has been a great place to live. I love the open space for hiking, biking, and exploring nature with my kids in our own backyard. The area is kid-friendly with plenty of parks.
