Major road improvements still in works to help EM commuters
The Utah Department of Transportation hopes that traffic relief will soon be on the way.
Several major road projects are in the works to help ease congestion, improve travel times and make commuting safer. UDOT said in a press release that a series of projects for 2025 and beyond will include key improvements that will directly impact Eagle Mountain.
Extending Mountain View Corridor to SR-73
One of the biggest projects in the pipeline is the long-awaited extension of Mountain View Corridor (MVC) to Cory Wride Highway (SR-73) and Pioneer Crossing in Saratoga Springs. This new freeway connection will provide an alternative to Redwood Road and I-15, which are often jam-packed during peak hours. Not only will it reduce traffic stress, but it will also come with multi-use trails, making the corridor more accessible for cyclists and pedestrians. While construction to connect MVC to SR-73 won’t start until at least 2027, planning is already well underway.
However, some progress will happen sooner. In 2025, a portion of MVC will be extended from 2100 North to Porter Rockwell Boulevard as part of the broader effort to complete the corridor. This phased approach ensures that relief starts coming before the full connection to SR-73 is completed.
Turning Cory Wride Highway (SR-73) Into a Freeway
SR-73 is also slated to be turned into a freeway with frontage roads, improvements that are anticipated to improve motorist safety in the area. The $459 million investment will help traffic flow more smoothly, with added space for transit, bike lanes and trails.
As Eagle Mountain continues to grow, this upgrade will make a big difference in getting people where they need to go more efficiently.
Other Major UDOT Projects in 2025
Beyond the projects directly impacting Eagle Mountain, UDOT is undertaking several significant road improvements across Region 3 in 2025. These include:
- Pioneer Crossing Lane Additions – Flex lanes will allow two more lanes of travel, in peak direction, during rush hour.
- State Street Improvements – Enhancing traffic flow and safety in American Fork and Pleasant Grove.
- Geneva Road Widening – Expanding lanes and improving bike and pedestrian access between University Parkway and 1800 South.
- I-15 Interchange Upgrades – Improvements in Springville to streamline on/off-ramp traffic.
These projects, along with those in Eagle Mountain, reflect UDOT’s commitment to keeping up with Utah’s rapid growth and ensuring smoother commutes for all residents.
What This Means for You
If you’ve been frustrated with long commutes, backed-up intersections and limited road options, these improvements are designed to help.
While some of the larger projects won’t break ground for a few years, Eagle Mountain City and state leaders are actively working on long-term solutions to keep up with Eagle Mountain’s rapid growth.
