Library offers an extension for 3D art contest

The Eagle Mountain Public Library is inviting young artists to get creative with its “Out of the Book” 3D Art Contest.

This hands-on opportunity encourages teens and pre-teens ages 11-18 to turn old books and book pages into unique, three-dimensional works of art.

Each year during the Christmas break, the library provides take-home supplies to inspire creativity, and this year’s theme challenges participants to think beyond traditional art materials. Instead of paint or clay, teens are asked to repurpose book pages or old books to create imaginative 3D pieces.

Library staff hopes to see a few more submissions to join the incredible selection already on display. Submissions will be accepted through Jan. 16. Voting will take place the following week.

Artwork will be displayed with a plaque listing the youth’s name, a brief description of the piece, and a number. Library patrons will be able to vote using paper ballots placed in a drop box.

Beyond competition, the contest’s main purpose is to encourage children to see everyday and recycled materials in a new way. By transforming book pages and old books into art, participants explore creative problem-solving while learning from each other’s ideas.

To enter the 3D art contest, youth and their parent or guardian should fill about the entry form and drop off their art projects by Jan. 16.

In addition to this contest, teen patrons are invited to get creative during Teen Craft Night on Feb. 3 at 5 p.m. during the “Book Bedazzle” activity. Teens ages 12–18 can transform books into sparkling works of art using glue and gems. Participants are welcome to bring a book from home, or they can use one of the limited books provided by the library.

Adult patrons can join in the fun during the Folded Book Heart activity on Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m. This hands-on craft is open to ages 16 and older and guides participants through turning a book into a three-dimensional heart by folding its pages. Books and step-by-step instructions will be provided, offering a creative and relaxing way to repurpose old materials.
