EM voters to have say in replacing District 11’s Sen. Thatcher
Utah State Sen. Daniel Thatcher, the state’s only legislator from the Forward Party of Utah, announced his intention to resign earlier this year, giving Eagle Mountain and other residents of Senate District 11 a chance to help select his replacement.
For the first time in the state, the Forward Party of Utah is offering all registered voters in District 11, including Republicans, Democrats, Forward Party members, and unaffiliated voters, the opportunity to weigh in on who will represent them in the state Senate. Eagle Mountain residents are among those eligible to participate.
Prospective candidates submitted a declaration of intent in November. Candidates vying for the seat were required to pass a background check, commit to Forward Party values and agree to run under the party banner in 2026.
Candidates include:
- Tynley Bean (Erda)
- Maleah Bliss (Kearns)
- Emily Buss (Eagle Mountain)
- Jeff Marshall (Magna)
- Jeff Saunders (Tooele)
Eagle Mountain voters can find information about candidates at www.11chooses.com.
Eagle Mountain residents in Senate District 11 can participate in the Forward Party’s voter-driven selection process online from Monday, Dec. 9, through Sunday, Dec. 15. Voting is open 24 hours a day during that period to ensure all residents have ample opportunity to participate. Voters will need to register on the Forward Party of Utah’s website to receive a secure login and instructions.
For those who prefer in-person assistance, the Forward Party will have an in-person voting location available at the Valley Crossroads Chamber of Commerce at 3688 E. Campus Dr. Tuesday, Dec. 9 and Thursday, Dec. 11 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. both days.
