Eagle Mountain’s ShocktoberFest offers lifesaving training opportunity
Eagle Mountain City is once again helping residents prepare for emergencies with its annual ShocktoberFest—a free community CPR and AED training event led by the City’s Public Safety Director.
The event will take place Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eagle Mountain City Hall.
Registration is open for the first 25 participants. The training is free for most attendees, with a small $20 fee for those who need a certification card for work purposes.
Now in its third year, ShocktoberFest is designed to equip residents with the skills and confidence to respond effectively in life-threatening situations. Participants will receive hands-on instruction in CPR techniques for adults, children, and infants, as well as training on how to use an automatic external defibrillator (AED)—a device that can restore a normal heart rhythm during cardiac arrest.
“As a bystander, an AED is your best friend,” said Public Safety Director Dave Ulibarri. “It helps keep you on track during a potentially stressful moment. When someone’s life is on the line, knowing what to do—and having that tool nearby—can make all the difference.”
The session will also include real-world examples from Ulibarri’s public safety experience, offering participants practical insight into how these lifesaving tools are used in emergencies.
“Just a couple of hours of training could save someone’s life,” Ulibarri said. “That person might be someone you care about—or even a stranger. Either way, having the confidence and skill to step in can change the outcome completely.”
Ulibarri said events like ShocktoberFest are part of a broader effort to build a more prepared and self-reliant community.
“We want residents to have more tools in their toolbox,” he said. “My goal every year is to help more people feel self-sufficient and capable in emergency situations. Public outreach like this is one of the most important things we do.”
Ulibarri encourages residents to take part in the training.
Registration for ShocktoberFest is now open.
