Behind the scenes

Ensuring Quality Service

Public Utilities in Eagle Mountain include our Water and Wastewater departments. The Water department takes care of the City’s water system, making sure our water is safe and high quality. This involves daily chlorination sampling, well inspections, and weekly bacteria sampling. Our Wastewater department handles the wastewater treatment plant, ensuring it runs smoothly and safely.

While the City is responsible for maintaining and repairing all collection mains, residents need to take care of the sewer service lines from their buildings to the right-of-way.

Public Utilities Services

Culinary Water

Ensuring residents have access to a reliable supply of clean water is of utmost importance to the City. We monitor and test all our water regularly to ensure it meets our high-quality standards.

The City’s water comes from two sources: the groundwater and Central Utah Water Conservancy District (CUWCD). The main source, groundwater, is treated through the City by our professional staff. CUWCD water comes to Eagle Mountain already treated. Both sources are subject to the same standards, and you can confidently use the tap water throughout the City.

Water Treatment

Eagle Mountain City treats the groundwater produced here. The process includes chlorination to kill parasites, bacteria, and viruses to ensure it is safe for consumption. To find out more about the state and federal requirements, you can visit the Utah Department of Environmental Quality Drinking Water website.

Eagle Mountain City drinking water comes primarily from groundwater. It is pumped from aquifers deep underground and into our water system and storage tanks. Before it enters the water system, it is treated with chlorine for disinfection.

This process involves injecting chlorine gas into the water as it leaves the well site, which kills bacteria or other pathogens that may be present. The chlorine levels are closely monitored and adjusted by the Water department to ensure the water is safe for consumption when it reaches our residents.

Wastewater Management

Eagle Mountain City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant, installed in 2010, started with a design flow of 1.2 million gallons per day. In 2022, we upgraded it to handle 2.4 million gallons per day. We dispose of the treated water in several Rapid Infiltration Basins that percolate to the aquifer.

Our wastewater team, led by the Wastewater Supervisor and Public Utilities Manager, includes four full-time employees for the treatment system and three for the collections system. This cross-trained team operates and monitors the system 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Sampling

The Water department samples the water according to a sample site plan representing the whole City. Utah regulates the monitoring of all water systems in the state and water samples are sent to state-certified laboratories for analysis.

Eagle Mountain has different sources that it utilizes at different times of the year depending on demand. The water from these different sources varies in things such as taste, color, and scent. You may notice slight changes throughout the year based on which sources the City is using.

Eagle Mountain uses chlorine gas to disinfect the water and kill any potential bacteria or pathogens.

We do not add fluoride to our water, however there are trace amounts of naturally occurring fluoride.
