Eagle Mountain City Celebrates Major Milestone with QTS Topping Out Ceremony
On Friday, April 17, crews placed the final beam on the first QTS data center building in Eagle Mountain. This step, known as a “topping out,” marks the completion of the building’s structural framework. Construction will now move into the next phase as work continues across the rest of the site.
The first phase of the project includes five data center buildings across approximately 193 acres. Eagle Mountain was selected in part for its strong fiber connectivity and low risk of natural disasters, making it an ideal location for long-term digital infrastructure.
The project is expected to bring more than 2,000 construction jobs and over 100 permanent positions once operational. It will also generate significant tax revenue to support roads, public safety, schools, parks, and other essential community services.
QTS has committed to covering 100% of the energy costs associated with the site, ensuring those expenses are not passed on to residents. The facility will also use a closed-loop cooling system that recirculates water rather than continuously drawing from local sources, helping conserve water over the long term. In addition, the company plans to support workforce development and partner with local organizations.
Remarks at the topping out event were given by Dave Layton, CEO of Layton Construction; Lane Anderson, Executive Vice President of Development at QTS; and Eagle Mountain City Mayor Jared Gray.
“As that final beam goes into place, it marks an important milestone, but it is not the end. It is a step forward,” said Mayor Jared Gray. “We are excited about what comes next, the opportunities this campus will bring, and the role it will play in the future of Eagle Mountain.”
With the first building now structurally complete, construction will continue on interior systems as well as the remaining buildings across the campus.
