Senate Bill 188
For Future Employees
The Utah Legislature recently passed SB188, revising existing statute (53G-3-205 and 53G-3-301 through 308) and to provide additional guidance on the transition to new school districts. The bill determines the allocation date of July 1, 2027. That’s when the Lake Mountain School District will assume all operations.
How SB 188 will impact future employees
- Employees assigned to a school on the Allocation Date will remain at that school and become employees of the new district in which their school is physically located.
- Employees’ salaries will not decrease in their first year in new school districts.
- Employees will retain tenure earned while working in Alpine School District.
- Employees will retain or be compensated for leave accrued in Alpine School District.
- Employees not assigned to a school will receive a written employment offer from one of the new school districts before January 1, 2027, though their titles and responsibilities may be adjusted.
For Alpine School District Employees
How SB188 will impact current operations
- July 1, 2027 Alpine School District can continue to offer the retirement incentive, yearly cost of-living increases, and step and lane advancements.
- Alpine School District can issue lease revenue bonds or general obligation bonds, with bond proceeds and liabilities disbursed to the new school districts.
For Parents
How SB188 will impact new school districts
- Each new school district will have a seven member school board, to be elected in November 2025, and seated the first Tuesday after the county certifies the results.
- New school districts will enter into agreements with their employees that have the same terms in place in Alpine School District on the Creation Date.
- New school districts will adopt existing Alpine School District policies, including salary and benefits. After initial adoption, school boards can revise them.
For Students
- The Lake Mountain School District plans to offer a world-class education and we want our students to take advantage of educational opportunities as decisions are made by the new school board.
- We encourage you to soak up knowledge and have fun doing it.
- Many of your friends will still be going to class with you!
