Construction restarts on QTS Data Center in Eagle Mountain

Construction is once again underway on the QTS data center campus in Eagle Mountain, one of the city’s most significant ongoing economic development projects.

QTS, a nationwide developer specializing in colocation data centers, is moving forward with the next phase of its state-of-the-art facilities just west of the Meta campus. The project represents a strong economic win for Eagle Mountain, with major benefits for local jobs, sustainability, and future tax revenues.

“This project checks so many of the boxes we care about as a community,” said Evan Berrett, Eagle Mountain’s Director of Legislative and Strategic Services. “It’s bringing high-quality jobs, boosting our local economy and doing so with a design that aligns with our values around sustainability and responsible growth.”

Construction resumed after a brief delay to ensure the necessary energy infrastructure and resources were in place.

A key feature of the QTS design is its water-free cooling system. Unlike many traditional data centers that consume vast quantities of water to regulate equipment temperatures, the QTS facility will use advanced technology that eliminates water from the cooling process entirely.

“In Utah, water is one of our most precious resources,” Berrett said. “Seeing a large-scale project of this kind built without adding to that burden is a clear sign that industry can innovate responsibly.”

The project’s construction phase will create a surge of temporary employment, with an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 jobs expected to support the buildout over time. Once operational, QTS anticipates maintaining 100 to 200 permanent positions on site.

“These are meaningful jobs that will contribute directly to Eagle Mountain’s economy,” Berrett said. “And beyond that, the project will generate long-term tax revenue that benefits not only the City but also our local school district and other taxing entities.”

As the data center takes shape, QTS has expressed its intent to be an active and conscientious member of the Eagle Mountain community, minimizing impacts during construction and participating in local initiatives once operations begin.

“We’ve been really encouraged by QTS’s commitment to being a good neighbor,” Berrett said. “They’ve shown interest in understanding the community’s priorities and in giving back where they can. That’s the kind of partnership that helps ensure growth is a win-win for everyone.”

The restart of construction follows earlier site preparation and planning work that laid the foundation for multiple future buildings. Each facility will feature cutting-edge technology designed to meet the needs of the growing digital economy.
