USPS asked to add Saratoga Springs Post Office
U.S. Representative Burgess Owens is calling on the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to establish a new post office in Saratoga Springs, citing significant population growth in northern Utah County and increasing strain on the existing Lehi Post Office.
In a letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, Rep. Owens (R-UT) requested that the USPS conduct a feasibility study for a new postal facility in Saratoga Springs. He emphasized that rapid residential growth in Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain and surrounding areas has outpaced local postal infrastructure leading to long lines, delivery delays and an overburdened Lehi branch.
“Utahns in Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain, and Lehi have been forced to rely on a single, overcrowded post office, which is unacceptable for one of the fastest-growing regions in the country,”said Rep. Owens in a press release. “Since 2021, I’ve been fighting to fix it, listening to constituents impacted and bringing these issues to the highest levels of government.
According to data provided by Owens’ office, the combined population of Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain now exceeds 100,000 and is projected to grow to more than 150,000 in the next decade. In that context, a single post office serving the entire region is proving insufficient.
Eagle Mountain Mayor Tom Westmoreland expressed his support for a new location in Saratoga Springs.
“I fully support the establishment of a post office in Saratoga Springs. Eagle Mountain residents have long needed a more conveniently located facility, and this is a step in the right direction for our growing region,” said Westmoreland.
Residents in both communities have reported ongoing mail service issues, including inconsistent delivery, limited access to PO boxes and the need to travel long distances to send or retrieve packages, according to the release.
Rep. Owens noted that the Postal Service has an obligation to adapt to changing population demands and deliver consistent, timely service.
He urged USPS to take proactive steps in evaluating the need for expanded infrastructure in northern Utah County.
The USPS has not yet publicly responded to the request. Owens’ office says it remains committed to working with the agency and local stakeholders to improve mail service in the area.
