Public input sought on updated Parks, Trails, and Open Space Master Plan
Eagle Mountain City is inviting residents to take part in shaping the future of local recreation and open space at its “Parks, Paths, and Pumpkins” open house on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. at Eagle Mountain City Hall.
The family-friendly event will feature pumpkin-themed activities, games and giveaways, all while giving residents an opportunity to weigh in on how the City’s outdoor spaces should grow and improve in the coming years.
The open house is part of the City’s ongoing update to its Parks, Trails, and Open Space Master Plan, a guiding document that helps determine where and how parks, trails and open areas are maintained and utilized appropriately.
The plan was last updated in 2020 and is currently being revised in partnership with MHTN Architects, the consultant team leading the update.
“This is our effort to engage the public and get feedback so we can incorporate it into our Master Plan,” said Assistant Public Works Director Zac Hilton. “When it comes to recreation and open space, everyone has different needs and wants. It’s good to hear from everybody.”
The City began public engagement efforts for the update over the summer, gathering input on what residents value most. Hilton said that this upcoming open house is a key step in the process and will help finalize the plan’s direction.
“The last time we reached out, we were asking people if it was more important to see our current offerings maintained, or if we need new amenities,” Hilton explained. “This next event is about gathering that final round of feedback before we finish the plan.”
Residents attending the open house can expect more than just surveys and maps. To make the event engaging for families, there will be pumpkin-themed games and activities, and visitors who stop by each information table will receive City-branded swag.
City leaders have also been reviewing progress on the plan. During a recent City Council work session, several suggestions were raised, including trail lighting improvements, designs to better accommodate multiple trail uses and guidance on managing and open space areas.
The update is nearing completion, with MHTN Architects finalizing content and conducting a few remaining stakeholder interviews.
Following the Nov. 20 open house, the draft plan will move into the final review phase.
“We’re coming up to the finish line,” Hilton said. “Our plan is to have it go to the City’s Planning Commission at their first meeting in January, and to the City Council at their second meeting in January for adoption.”
Residents are encouraged to attend Parks, Paths, and Pumpkins to share their ideas and priorities for the future of Eagle Mountain’s parks and trails.
