Overnight apartment fire displaces EM residents

An early morning fire tore through an apartment building in Eagle Mountain, leaving residents displaced and prompting a multi-agency response.

Unified Fire Authority (UFA) officials said the blaze was reported just after 1 a.m. Tuesday at 8054 N. Ridge Loop. Flames began on the second-story exterior patio of Building J before spreading through the structure.

One tenant was rescued by firefighters who found them sheltering in a closet. That individual was transported to a hospital with injuries. Six Utah County Sheriff’s deputies who responded to the scene were also treated for smoke exposure or other minor conditions. No other injuries have been reported.

Pony Express Parkway experienced traffic delays during the overnight hours as crews worked to contain the fire. Firefighting efforts were halted shortly before 6 a.m., though a unit will remain at the site through the morning to monitor for flare-ups.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Residents of Building J have been displaced. The Red Cross is assisting those affected with shelter and immediate needs.

Crews from Eagle Mountain, Saratoga Springs, Lehi, American Fork, Bluffdale, and Draper fire departments joined UFA in responding to the incident.
