Mobile Mammography Unit offers breast cancer screenings
Eagle Mountain residents and City employees will have an opportunity to receive a potentially life-saving health screening close to home later this fall.
Intermountain Health’s Mobile Mammography Unit will be stationed at the Eagle Mountain Senior Center on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The service, offered in partnership with Eagle Mountain City, provides convenient access to annual breast cancer screenings. The unit is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and staffed by certified professionals who perform quick, confidential mammograms on-site.
“Hosting the mobile mammography unit here in Eagle Mountain is about breaking down barriers to care,” said Dawn Hancock, Eagle Mountain’s events manager. “We know many women put off screenings because of time, distance or the challenge of fitting an appointment into their schedules. Bringing this service directly into the community makes it that much easier to take care of your health.”
Health experts recommend that women begin annual mammograms at age 40 and continue each year as long as they are in good health.
Screenings typically take about 30 minutes, and early detection remains the most effective tool in treating and curing breast cancer.
Patients scheduling an appointment will need to provide the name of their physician so results can be sent directly for follow-up if needed. The unit does not perform screenings without a listed provider. Intermountain Health accepts most insurance plans and will bill insurance directly, though patients are encouraged to verify coverage with their providers in advance.
Accessibility is also an important factor: the unit requires patients to climb five stairs to enter. Those who may have difficulty with stairs should speak with Intermountain staff before booking to ensure safety.
Women no longer need to wait four weeks after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine or booster before scheduling a mammogram. This update is intended to remove one more barrier for those who may have delayed screenings during the pandemic.
Appointments can be made through Intermountain Health’s scheduling platform at this link or by calling 385-266-4437. Anyone needing to cancel or reschedule should use the same phone number, which connects directly to the mobile unit staff.
“We want residents to feel confident and comfortable signing up,” Hancock said. “The staff is friendly, professional, and here to make the process as smooth as possible. This is one of those simple steps we can take that has an enormous impact on health outcomes.”
The Mobile Mammography Unit will be at the Eagle Mountain Senior Center, 1637 East Heritage Drive, all day on October 31. Space is limited, and residents are encouraged to schedule as soon as possible.
