EM school receives teachers’ lounge makeover from Crayola and Walmart

Pony Express Elementary School received a $5,000 makeover for its teachers’ lounge this month through a national program sponsored by Crayola and Walmart.

The school was one of 24 selected nationwide to receive the award after participating in Crayola Creativity Week in January. The recognition came through the Creative Teachers Sweepstakes, which aims to support educators and schools through facility upgrades and classroom materials.

The makeover included $3,000 in Walmart gift cards from Crayola to furnish and decorate the lounge, an additional $1,000 in Walmart gift cards directly for teachers, and $1,000 worth of Crayola art supplies.

Volunteers from Walmart’s South Jordan Supercenter carried out the installation, painting, and furniture assembly. Sixteen store associates participated in the project.

This is the second year of the Crayola-Walmart partnership for the teacher lounge program. In total, the initiative awarded more than $120,000 to participating schools across the country.

Walmart’s involvement in Eagle Mountain is expected to increase in the coming months. The city’s first Walmart Supercenter, currently under construction, is now scheduled to open August 27.

Crayola Creativity Week is an annual initiative that provides schools, families, and libraries with arts-based content aimed at promoting creative learning. More than 13 million students participated in the program this year.
