Applications now open to fill City Council vacancy

Eagle Mountain residents may now submit applications to fill a vacancy on the City Council.

The Eagle Mountain City Council is in the process of filling a vacant council seat created after former Council member Jared Gray was elected Mayor during the 2025 elections, leaving two years remaining on his Council term.

Gray formally resigned his Council position effective Dec. 29. In accordance with State requirements, the vacancy will be filled by appointing an eligible Eagle Mountain resident who meets the standard qualifications to run for municipal office, including residency and voter eligibility as found in the Utah state code.

Applications for the vacant seat will be accepted through Jan. 14 at 4 p.m.In compliance with state code, the vacancy must be publicly posted for 14 days, and the City Council is required to select a replacement within 30 days of the vacancy.

All eligible applicants will be interviewed during a special City Council meeting on Jan. 15. Applicants are asked to complete an application form that includes written questions, allowing Council members to become familiar with candidates prior to the meeting.

Following the interviews, the City Council will deliberate in open session and vote publicly to select the new Council member. The selected candidate will be officially sworn in Jan. 20 at 3:30 p.m. prior to the regularly scheduled City Council meeting.

City Manager Ben Reeves emphasized the most important qualities of a successful Council member: “Genuine love for the community and strong personal integrity. While municipal experience and technical skills can be learned, public service should be driven by a desire to serve residents and act in the best interest of the community, not for personal gain.”

Residents interested in serving are encouraged to apply and participate in this opportunity to help shape the future of Eagle Mountain.
