Alpine School District names new Eagle Mountain middle school

The Alpine School District Board of Education has officially named the new middle school set to open in Eagle Mountain in August 2025.

Following an extensive selection process involving community input, the board voted on Tuesday night to name the school Sage Canyon Middle School.

The decision marks a significant milestone in the development of the new school, which will help alleviate overcrowding at Frontier Middle School. The naming process was led by Brian Jolley, the school’s newly appointed principal, who worked closely with four committees comprising students, parents and employees to ensure broad community engagement.

During a recent board meeting, three potential names were presented for consideration: Coyote Ridge Mavericks, Sage Canyon Coyotes, and West Desert Coyotes. The process allowed the community to have a voice in selecting a name that reflects the school’s identity and the local landscape.

The selection of Sage Canyon Middle School reflects the area’s natural geography and the desire to create a school identity that resonates with students and the broader Eagle Mountain community. While the name is now set, further details regarding the school’s mascot and logo will be determined in the coming months.

King emphasized the importance of community involvement in the process, noting that students played a crucial role in shaping the school’s identity.

Eagle Mountain continues to experience rapid population growth, making the construction of additional schools a priority for Alpine School District. Sage Canyon Middle School is expected to provide much-needed space for students and contribute to a more balanced distribution of enrollment in the area’s secondary schools.

Community members who wish to stay informed about the next steps in the school’s development, including updates on the mascot selection, can follow Alpine School District announcements online.

Sage Canyon Middle School is on track to welcome students in fall 2025, bringing new opportunities for learning and growth to Eagle Mountain’s youth.
