Runner Guy aims to break Guinness World Record
Ben Lyne, known throughout the community as the “runner guy with a sign,” is setting his sights on a new challenge: breaking a Guinness World Record.
Lyne, whose daily runs with his signature “I BELIEVE IN YOU” sign, is organizing an event to create the Longest Chain of People Holding Motivational Signs.
“I just can’t shake this crazy idea,” Lyne said in a recent promotional video. “But I need your help to get your school on board.”
While the date for the event is yet to be determined, it is anticipated to be held in May during the last week of school. Anticipation is already being built for what promises to be an exciting moment in Eagle Mountain.
Lyne’s journey of spreading positivity began in 2019, but it wasn’t until 2022 that he took the leap and began running with his message in hand. Initially plagued by self-doubt, he found courage in the idea that even a small act of kindness could make a big impact.
Over time, his runs gained attention, and soon, the community began responding. Social media posts poured in from residents who had been deeply moved by Lyne’s efforts. Some shared stories of how seeing his sign turned around a bad day, while others spoke of the inspiration it gave them to be more positive in their own lives.
As his impact grew, Lyne expanded his efforts, organizing events such as “Signs Up to Lift Up,” where participants held up their own encouraging messages for passersby. He also led a group in Eagle Mountain’s Pony Express Days parade, inviting others to join him in spreading hope and positivity.
Now, Lyne is taking his mission to the next level by attempting to break a Guinness World Record. The event will aim to assemble the longest chain of people holding motivational signs.
The goal is to stretch students and community members from the digital sign at Cedar Valley High School, all along the sidewalk on Pony Express Parkway. Attendees would also line up from the sign at Cory Wride Memorial Park and stretch along the sidewalk on Pony Express Parkway to meet in the middle.
“Let’s make the chain,” Lyne shouted in his video.
Community members interested in participating in this record-breaking attempt will have the opportunity to participate. The estimated need to break the record is 1,800 people.
“Are you in? I believe in you,” Lyne said.
More details about the event will be announced soon.
