Residents have another opportunity to influence future downtown

Eagle Mountain City is inviting residents to help shape the future of its community by participating in the Downtown Master Plan Open House on Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at City Hall.

The open house will give residents the chance to review land use and transportation concepts and provide feedback that will guide the creation of the City’s future downtown.

“The concepts will be the result of great resident input and ideas we have received over the past couple of months,” says City Economic Development Director Evan Berrett.

The development of a downtown is a unique opportunity for Eagle Mountain. Unlike cities where downtowns evolved over decades, Eagle Mountain has the rare chance to plan a central hub that meets the community’s current and future needs.

The downtown area could include small business spaces, sit-down restaurants, trail connections, gathering areas for events and festivals, and public amenities—all while reflecting the City’s unique and natural character.

According to Berrett, additional housing construction is not part of the Downtown Master Plan process.

“There’s no doubt that there needs to be consideration of what will be successful at the end of the day. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t use our imagination,” says Berrett.

Once the resident-driven plan is complete, Eagle Mountain City plans to partner with private developers to bring the downtown vision to life.

The area will be strategically located across from Cory Wride Memorial Park, with minimal impact on major roadways or commutes.

“We know traffic is top of mind for everyone, so our planning includes a focus on designing a downtown area that has very little to no impact on commutes,” says Berrett. “This is better to do now while we are working with undeveloped land compared to other cities that are challenged by older downtowns that weren’t designed around modern transportation demands.”
