Eagle Mountain City’s Water department says that residents can report changes in the taste or the scent of their drinking water to the City to receive quality control testing.
While the City has not changed its water source in recent weeks, Water department staff say educating residents on how water quality is monitored and how to report any concerns is an important step toward maintaining trust in the community’s water supply.
Eagle Mountain City follows strict protocols to ensure safe and high-quality drinking water for all residents. As part of routine operations, the City changes water storage tanks throughout the year and conducts regular disinfection, which is standard procedure.
Additionally, daily monitoring ensures that the water meets all safety and quality standards.
“We test for bacteria throughout the week and continuously monitor chlorine residuals,” said Eagle Mountain City Public Utilities Manager Mack Straw. “As long as chlorine is still detectable, it indicates that the system remains safe. This ongoing monitoring allows us to ensure the highest water quality.”
The City’s SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system provides real-time alerts to staff about any potential issues with the water system. This system ensures that City personnel can quickly respond to and address any compliance concerns that arise. However, the most crucial aspect of maintaining water quality is the daily testing performed by City staff.
Residents who notice any changes in the taste or smell of their water are encouraged to report their concerns immediately. The City urges residents to call the City’s emergency hotline and select the option for the Water department.
“If residents experience any variation in the taste or smell of their water, we want to hear about it,” said Straw. “While some individuals may be more sensitive to chlorine, we take all reports seriously and will dispatch staff to conduct advanced testing as needed.”
Eagle Mountain City reassures residents that water sourcing remains unchanged this winter and the tanks in use will not be adjusted until lawn watering season begins.
Maintaining the highest standards of water quality is a top priority for the City, and resident feedback plays a crucial role in ensuring that any concerns are promptly addressed.
For any water quality concerns, residents should call the City’s emergency hotline or submit their issue through the City’s mobile app.
