What is Eagle Mountain Doing to Manage Water Resources?
Water is essential for our community’s prosperity. The City is leading with a comprehensive plan that underscores our commitment to sustainability. In Eagle Mountain, more than 75% of its water is used for residential purposes, and 90% of residential water is used for landscape irrigation.

Utah is in Drought
It doesn’t always feel like it, but Utah is one of the driest states in the country. The governor has signed an emergency order to help conserve the state’s precious water resources.

City Facilities Improvements
- Significant investments are being made into the City’s wastewater treatment facility to filter and treat wastewater for re-use at City parks and other public property.
- The City’s many thousands of sprinkler heads have been upgraded to operate on smart timers and controllers.
- Nonfunctional areas are being converted to native grasses, which require much less water to survive while maintaining an aesthetic appeal that indicates quality
- The City is also working to enhance its water conservation plan and long-term water management strategies.
Lawn Watering Hours
Evapotranspiration, or the combination of water evaporation from the air and surfaces on the ground, is at its peak during the hot daytime hours. It’s much more efficient to water during the late evening or early morning hours. Eagle Mountain City code prohibits watering your lawn during the hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Landscape Design
Utah landscapes are typically filled with grass, and it requires a significant amount of water to maintain. Utah’s soil and climate can support many diverse and beautiful plants that can provide amazing curb appeal, attract birds and butterflies, or create a peaceful retreat.
Hardscapes, such as gravel or concrete, can also create better uses of space. With a little effort, you can plan a water efficient landscape that is more rewarding than grass alone. Use the following resources to help you get started.

An efficient lawn watering system is crucial to both having the landscaping you want while saving water.
In 2022, Utah State University performed an analysis on Eagle Mountain’s residential water use and found that on average, residents are using twice as much water as needed on their lawns.
Overwatering is often a direct result of a poorly programmed or poorly maintained irrigation system.
