Historic Preservation

Enjoy Eagle Mountain’s rich, historic heritage

Petroglyphs

The first evidence of people in Eagle Mountain’s Cedar Valley dates back to the Middle Archaic Period (from 5000 to 2000 BC) and the Late Archaic Period (from 2000 BC to 300 BC). Petroglyphs from this era were etched into the rocks throughout the Cedar Valley by the Fremont People, including where Eagle Mountain City Center exists today.

We encourage visitors to be respectful of these sacred sites and keep them free from graffiti, debris, and other damage.

The Pony Express Trail

The Pony Express was a revolutionary mail delivery system established in 1860 in the United States, operating between St. Joseph, Missouri, and Sacramento, California. It relied on a relay of horseback riders who carried mail across vast stretches of the American West, covering nearly 1,900 miles in just 10 days. Despite its short-lived existence—operating for only 18 months—the Pony Express played a significant role in communication during a pivotal period of American history. It facilitated faster and more reliable communication between the East and West coasts, particularly during the tumultuous years leading up to the Civil War.

The Pony Express Trail runs directly through Eagle Mountain. The community continues to honor the Pony Express through its annual Pony Express Days summer festival. Residents and visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the Pony Express Trail site. View the map and plan your visit.
