Library launches summer reading program with “Color Our World” theme
The Eagle Mountain Public Library is inviting residents of all ages to participate in its 2025 Summer Reading Program, set to begin in early June.
With this year’s theme, “Color Our World,” the program celebrates creativity in all its forms, from visual arts to music and performance, and offers a variety of free activities designed to keep the community reading, learning and connecting all summer long.
“The Summer Reading program is a great way to keep the family reading while out of school. It helps to retain vital language and reading skills while making it fun. It is our hope that families will register and participate together,” says Library Director Michele Graves.
The program will kick off with two events at the Friends in Need Animal Sanctuary. The morning kickoff is scheduled for Monday, June 3, from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. An evening option is offered on Thursday, June 5, from 6 to 7 p.m. Attendees will enjoy a visit to the animals and gardens, participate in a scavenger hunt, and receive their summer reading materials, including a lanyard and reading log.
Registration for the Summer Reading Program is now open. Patrons can sign up by scanning the program QR code or visiting https://emcity.jotform.com/250975796404065.
Registration is required for each individual who wishes to participate. All ages are welcome, and every activity is free to attend.
Throughout the summer, participants can visit the library weekly to receive a themed bookmark featuring an artist of the week. Readers can color in the bookmark as they complete reading goals, then fill out the attached raffle ticket to enter a prize drawing in August. Buttons featuring each week’s artist will also be available to collect and add to participant lanyards. Optional enrichment activities are listed on the back of each bookmark.
“We will be offering our lanyards and themed pins again this year,” says Assistant Library Director Kristin Allred. “They will be offered to ALL ages who register and participate in our Summer Reading program.”
The summer lineup includes story times at Walden Park, craft activities for all ages, yoga at Nolan Park, family game and puzzle days, Karaoke Night, a Bluey Bash, and the Puppet Picnic, among others. Additional activities such as Kindness and Self-Care BINGO, Road Trip BINGO, and the annual bookmark design contest will also be featured.
The program will conclude with a celebration at Cory Wride Memorial Park featuring Science Heroes and outdoor games. A raffle drawing for participants will take place in early August.
Library staff emphasize that the Summer Reading Program provides more than just entertainment. It helps children and teens retain academic skills during the break, improves reading comprehension and vocabulary, and fosters a lifelong love of reading. The program also encourages community engagement for families and individuals alike.
