Eagle monument temporarily removed Wednesday for site restoration
Eagle Mountain City is taking steps to preserve a key community landmark.
Today, crews removed the Eagle Monument, located at the intersection of Eagle Mountain Boulevard and SR-73, to facilitate necessary restoration efforts.
The monument, a recognizable image in the community for years, has been assessed and the rock on which it sits is found to be deteriorating. To ensure its longevity and public safety, the City plans to rebuild the rock base before reinstalling the eagle in the near future.
“We know how much this monument means to our residents,” said City Communications Manager Tyler Maffitt. “Our goal is to maintain this landmark while making sure it remains safe and sustainable for years to come.”
Public Works Director Brad Hickman explained that the monument’s base has suffered from wear and tear over time, making restoration a priority.
“The rock structure is failing, and we want to address it now before it becomes a bigger issue,” said Hickman. “We are committed to preserving the monument’s significance while ensuring it stands into the future.”
City officials are considering several options for reconstructing the base. One option includes recreating the original rock using durable materials designed to withstand the elements. Another concept under evaluation proposes a modernized structure featuring a steel base, while still supporting the iconic eagle sculpture.
Renderings of these potential designs are currently being developed, and once a final plan is selected, the City will move forward with construction and provide a timeline for the monument’s reinstallation.
In the meantime, safety remains a top priority. The removal process is designed to prevent any risk to drivers along Eagle Mountain Boulevard and ensure the monument is preserved without further damage.
“We appreciate the community’s patience as we work to restore the monument,” said Hickman. “The City is excited to see it return in a refreshed and lasting form.”
Residents are encouraged to stay updated through City communication channels for further information on the restoration timeline and final design decisions.
