Downtown plan adopted, next steps begin
Eagle Mountain City has officially adopted its Downtown Master Plan.
The City Council approved the plan during their March 4 meeting, setting the stage for the creation of a vibrant downtown area that aligns with the community’s identity and aspirations.
“The outcome is fantastic, and I’m optimistic that what we have here is a plan that will achieve much of what residents have been asking for,” says Economic Development Director Evan Berrett.
The Downtown Master Plan envisions a modern, family-centric, and active downtown that reflects Eagle Mountain’s unique character.
The plan includes architectural and landscaping recommendations, guidelines for hosting events, strategies for maintaining the area over time and detailed implementation planning.
The proposed downtown area is strategically located to become a major node within the city. Transportation plans indicate that this area will naturally function as the downtown, supported by nearby anticipated developments and existing assets like Cory Wride Memorial Park.
The geographic extent of the downtown may evolve depending on arrangements with landowners and the feasibility of executing the plan.
“As this space develops, it will become an iconic location within our city,” says Berrett. “Small, local businesses will start up here, events large and small will happen here, and residents will be connected with nature and wildlife here.”
The development of the Downtown Master Plan has been a collaborative effort involving extensive community engagement.
Over the past several months, MHTN Architects worked closely with City leaders and residents to develop a preferred design for the downtown. This process included surveys, open houses, and other in-person events to facilitate discussions and gather feedback throughout the planning process.
Berrett emphasized the importance of community involvement.
“We all have an amazing once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to design a downtown from scratch, to contribute our ideas and energy into something that will give the city identity for decades.”
This sentiment underscores the City’s commitment to creating a downtown that truly reflects the desires and values of its residents.
With the adoption of the Downtown Master Plan, Eagle Mountain City is now focusing on implementation. The City is exploring partnerships with developers to bring the downtown vision to life. In addition, the City wants to establish architectural standards. Funding sources and timelines are currently being solidified to ensure the project’s success.
As one of the fastest-growing cities in the state, Eagle Mountain’s population surpassed 70,000 residents last year. The development of a downtown area aims to cater to this growing population by providing a central hub for community activities, shopping, dining, and entertainment.
