Minor earthquake felt in parts of EM

In the early hours of Thursday, May 1, 2025, a minor earthquake with a magnitude of 3.9 shook parts of Utah County, including Eagle Mountain. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported its epicenter located near Independence, Utah.  

Residents in Eagle Mountain and neighboring communities reported feeling light shaking. According to the USGS’s Community Internet Intensity Map (CIIM), the earthquake was felt with weak shaking with no expected damage.

No injuries or significant damage have been reported. The University of Utah Seismograph Stations (UUSS) confirmed the event and noted that such minor earthquakes are not uncommon in the region.  

Residents who experienced the quake are encouraged to report their observations to the USGS at earthquake.usgs.gov, which helps scientists better understand seismic activity in the area.
