With this week of gratitude and the holiday season, it had me thinking a lot about our last four years here in this house in Eagle Mountain.
We have had some of the hardest four years in this house and neighborhood.
And each time we have had some of the greatest moments with the friends and family and neighbors that live right around us.
When I started doing crossing guard, everyone loved it and started dropping off hats, giving me outfits and funny phrases to say. I had parents and kids take pictures with me and I got a spotlight with Eagle Mountain.
When I started painting windows, I had family and friends immediately ask me to come and paint their windows.
When I started teaching paint nights, and more recently when I had a few last minute cancellations I thought to reach out to my friends and neighbors and they more than filled the room. In a few hours, I tripled the amount of painters I had coming.
When Maka got sick…
When we lost each baby…
When Maka lost his job…
When we started concrete full-time…
When I got sick…
When we had baby Rocky…
When the basement flooded…
When I got mastitis…
When the van was stolen…
My kids have only seen service and kindness as each of these challenges have happened, and that’s all because of the selfless service, thoughts, care, and time of the people around us.
So when we got called this week and told that someone had nominated us for a full Thanksgiving dinner, I felt the familiar overwhelm of gratitude.
I think I’m getting better at receiving. I think I’m getting better at not immediately looking inwards- at all the disappointment, the loss, the mess, the pain- and looking outwards at all the people that fill in where we can’t, that see and love me and my family for all we try to give and do, and serve us and lift us. I think I’m getting better at being grateful instead of embarrassed or guilty. I’m getting better at seeing all the wonder and love that come from receiving the thoughtful act of another.
Thank you and love you all! Happy Thanksgiving! 🍁

Still has open spaces with outdoor recreation opportunities and still a safe place for wildlife. I hope that never changes. I love that my kids can leave the house and have outdoor adventures in the hills.
We love Eagle Mountain. It has the small, close-knit feel but is close to everything.
Eagle Mountain has been a great place to live. I love the open space for hiking, biking, and exploring nature with my kids in our own backyard. The area is kid-friendly with plenty of parks.
